What: Send Your Comment on Oil Train Expansion Through San Jose! Deadline: Nov. 24th
When: November 24, 2014 at 6pm

While there is much talk about Keystone XL in Congress, another tar sands project is hitting much closer to home, right here in San Jose!  Oil giant Phillips 66 is trying to get approval to send mile-long trains loaded with tar sands crude 5 times a week through the East Bay rail corridor and right through San Jose all the way down to their refinery in Santa Maria, near San Luis Obispo. oil_by_rail_pic_for_comment_period.png

We have a short window to oppose this project by sending comments to the San Luis Obispo County Planning Department by Monday November 24. Here’s what you can do to help stop this train wreck:

  1. Send your own comment through this link:  http://bit.ly/NoCAoiltrains
  2. Share this webpage with your friends, family, neighbors by email or Facebook, the more people the better!
  3. If you live in San Jose, call your City Council Member, and ask her or him to send a comment. Time is probably too short for a full SJ City Council resolution, but comments by SJ Council Members would be very effective!

See also this excellent toolkit from ForestEthics with more details about the project and on how to comment. This oil-by-rail project is not only a disaster in waiting for San Jose residents, it is also completely irresponsible from a climate perspective. By stopping it, we can continue to tighten the stranglehold on Canadian tar sands and prevent further investments in their development.
